LATE M. MASIHUR RAHMAN, FCA

LATE M. Masihur Rahman, FCA graduated from the Calcutta University and perused the study of Chartered Accountancy in England under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and obtained the degree of Chartered Accountants in the year 1958. He then took membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and returned to the home country and obtained membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and founded Rahman Rahman Huq & Co. a partnership firm of Chartered Accountants along with two other members of the institute. Later in the same year he set up a proprietary audit firm named M M Rahman & Co. Chartered Accountants.

Mr. M. Masihur Rahman is a founder member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and was President of the Institute for the year 1979.

He had wide exposure in economic, social, business and professional arena in home and abroad. He was the Governor of the Rotary District 329 comprising of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and a part of India.

He was founder member of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), the apex body of business community of Bangladesh became its President for the year 1973-1974.

He was the director of an industrial bank (Bangladesh Shilpa Bank) and three leading commercial banks of the country namely, Sonali Bank, Janata Bank and Uttara Bank. Besides he was the Board of Trustee of erstwhile DIT (Rajuk).

He worked as member of different committees and commissions formed by the government of Bangladesh from time to time. He was a member of the Taxation Inquiry Commission. The present Income Tax Act of the country is the outcome of the recommendation of the commission.

He traveled extensively in many countries of the world in business trips and to participate the conferences of professional, social and economic interest.

Mr. M. Masihur Rahman died at the age of 77 years on 5th July, 2001.
